Teachers Very Appreciative of SUFA Grants

1/19/2017

Picture

At the quarterly Artisans meeting, we heard exciting stories directly from teachers who had received grants from Stepping Up For Arts.  Pictured here is Stacey Belter, the art teacher at Cedar Grove Middle School with her grant check.  Stacey has plans to expand their clay program as well as to purchase a refurbished ipad so that the students can use free art history applications.

Another art teacher, Heidi Nyholm, of Lincoln Elementary School, shared her plans to augment their outdoor art classroom with new display and mural capabilities.

It was great to hear the plans and passion of both teachers.  We are so proud of the efforts of Stepping Up For Arts to help these teacher bring great experiences to their students!

Featured Artists - January 2017

1/3/2017

The Artisans Gallery is pleased to present our January Featured Artists.

Allie Lull is an artist who believes a successful creation is one that engages the viewer. What the viewer brings to understanding her work is as important as what she actually lays on the paper or canvas. Most of her work is abstract expressionistic but, at times, moves into a more objective realm. She likes to create life, emotion and context as she plays with various media.

Carol Kidd uses many outlets for her creativeness. Her oil paintings are often inspired by her travels as well as the beautiful landscapes she finds here in North Carolina. Her decorative painting on glass allows for more delicate motifs and she is able to create glassware for special events like weddings and showers. Her latest creative outlet is painting on silk where she delights in designs that are free flowing in color to produce one of a kind scarves. Carol, also, is an accomplished seamstress and has many fabric craft items on display.

Please come to the Artisans Gallery at the Marina to view their wonderful work on display. Look for our announcement of a reception on January 12th to honor them.
