I grew up in New England, where I discovered an early love for art. I graduated with a BS in Fine Art from Skidmore College. Upon finishing my degree, I chose not to make art my source of income. Instead, I promised myself that I would return to it upon retirement. I had a multi-phased working career that began in the high-tech industry and finished as Director of Communications at a Montessori school. In 2010, after living almost 30 years in Groton, MA, my husband and I began a new -adventure and made the move to southeast coastal NC.
I began my on-and-off return to painting soon after arriving in St. James. It took being sequestered at home due to the concerns about COVID-19 for me to finally set-up a studio area and spend some concentrated time painting. In June 2020, with the whole world changing, I decided it was time to start another new adventure and I joined the Artisans. I have the honor of being elected President of the Artisans Association in January 2022. My work is fundamentally realistic. I am intrigued by trying to manipulate color to capture contrasts and changes in light, reflections, moods, and texture. I work primarily in watercolor and acrylic and am inspired by being near the ocean and from places we have traveled. Contact me at: su.peyton@gmail.com 978-621-1232 |
