I grew up in California and come from a family of artists. My great grandfather was a pen and ink artist and my mother painted in the Chinese watercolor style with inks and watercolor on rice paper. I studied art at Michigan State University and majored in Art Education. After college I taught art in middle school in the Michigan school system.
I prefer to paint in oil and watercolor and my favorite subject matters are landscapes, birds, and flowers. I have also been dabbling in pastels this year. I enjoy taking work shops and love to learn from other artists. I lived in Chicago area from 1998 to 2014 and at that time I was a member of the Naperville and Wheaton Art Leagues and galleries. I studied with Marge Hall, a floral oil painter in Wheaton, IL and other artists. We moved to St. James in Southport in 2014 and I fell in love with our beautiful area! I find constant inspiration for painting the marshes, water, and wildlife. My camera is never far away! I recently joined the Pastel Society for North Carolina and I plan to take some workshops this year from local artists. My most recent endeavor and love is painting small watercolors and mounting them on Davinci wood blocks. I am really enjoying making my “mini” paintings! I hope to see you all at the Artisan Gallery on Howe Street in Southport. Contact information for Nancy Young: Cell 630-788-8333 youngnancy6641@gmail.com Nancy A.
