Pillows by Krissie are lovingly handcrafted using new and vintage fabrics, trims, and buttons. They are often one of a kind and represent my love of sewing. As a child, I joined 4-H and made my first apron which I exhibited at the Wayne County Fair in Ohio. My interest grew and soon I was making most of my own clothes. I found that I could keep up with the fashion trends on a small budget when I sewed my clothes myself. This led me to apply to the University of Rhode Island to pursue a degree in textiles and clothing. When my daughter was young, I used my skills to make clothes and ballet costumes for her. Now that she has a daughter of her own, I have begun making baby shoes for my very first grandchild! I’ve discovered that the quilting section of the fabric store offers me an endless selection of mini prints to mix and match!
For the past several years, I have turned my attention to sewing mini-bolsters and other sized pillows. The most fun I have is matching fabrics with trims, making each pillow unique! They appeal to a wide variety of tastes. Each one is created to provide a “pop” of interest when placed on a chair, sofa, or bed. Some are themed to coordinate with beach décor. Others can be displayed during holidays like Halloween and Christmas. For me, entering a fabric store is like walking into a candy shop. So many choices!
