Artist Bio
My first sewing experience was in the fourth grade, when I joined 4-H and made a tea towel, then an apron, and later my own clothes. While living in Austria as a ninth grader, my curriculum included a sewing class, where I learned to use a treadle machine. Over the years, I have made my daughter’s clothes, especially holiday dresses, and later moved on to decorative pillows of all shapes and sizes. I entered the University of Rhode Island to pursue a degree in textiles and clothing, but transitioned to child development, in the college of home economics. I enjoy working with different types of fabrics. In fact, a fabric shop is like a candy store in my mind. So many goodies to look at. Artist Statement One of my signature pillows is a small bolster that features whimsical trim and decorative buttons on the ends. It’s the perfect way to accessorize a sofa, chair or bed. My latest focus came after the birth of my first grandchild, when I discovered a pattern for cloth baby shoes. I make them in several sizes and colors, and the best part about them is that they are reversible! They make perfect baby gifts! To see my latest designs, follow me on Facebook at Pillows by Krissie.
