My first sewing experience was in the fourth grade, when I joined 4-H and made a tea towel, then an apron, and later my own clothes. While living in Austria as a ninth grader, my curriculum included a sewing class, where I learned to use a treadle machine. Over the years, I have made my daughter’s clothes, especially holiday dresses, and later moved on to decorative pillows of all shapes and sizes.
I entered the University of Rhode Island to pursue a degree in textiles and clothing, but transitioned to child development, in the college of home economics. I enjoy working with different types of fabrics. In fact, a fabric shop is like a candy store in my mind. So many goodies to look at.
One of my signature pillows is a small bolster that features whimsical trim and decorative buttons on the ends. It’s the perfect way to accessorize a sofa, chair or bed. My latest focus came after the birth of my first grandchild, when I discovered a pattern for cloth baby shoes. I make them in several sizes and colors, and the best part about them is that they are reversible! They make perfect baby gifts!
