The Artisans Gallery re-opens Monday, September 24th and will remain open until Friday, October 12th. Please join us for a Thank You Celebration of your patronage over the last 8 years. We will have wine, cheese and live music!
The Artisans Gallery, still at our own Marina, is open as of Monday September 24 and we are looking forward to seeing our neighbors and customers, back healthy and relatively unscathed after the fury of Florence.
The Artisans will be collecting nonperishable food items for people and pets for the hard-hit residents of the Southport area. Thanks in advance for your donations. Join us in September for our popular Fourth Friday Art Walk, Friday, September 28 at the Artisan's Gallery at the St James Marina. Artists will be exhibiting a wide variety of their work. We will serve wine and cheese and we will also have live music!
We will also be collecting non-perishable items for the victims of Hurricane Florence. Please bring whatever you can to help those families struggling in the aftermath of the hurricane. The Artisans, who manage the Artisan Gallery and the non-profit organization Stepping Up For Arts, is facing two major challenges in 2018. First, our Gallery is losing its rental space as of October 2018, where more than 70 local artists display and sell their fine art. Losing this space negatively impacts the individual revenues of our local artists, minimizes our presence in the community and reduces our ability to support both in human and financial resources our non-profit Stepping Up For Arts.
Meeting the art needs of our county teachers and students is our second challenge. We have recently become aware that the county teachers receive about $1.00 per student for art supplies each year. Stepping Up For Arts, our non-profit, has consistently provided financial resources to those teachers and students, having contributed more than $30,000 to those endeavors. Now we are faced with having to increase our revenues to support these needs. With the potential disappearance of the Gallery, due to lack of space, we risk losing the help they have given us. In the past, our overhead had been reduced due to assistance from kindly and generous folks like yourself. Now the process of moving and renting new space presents short term financial challenges that we hope you can help us overcome. Thank you in advance for your generous help. And thanks to everyone who has supported the Artisans Gallery for the last 8 years! https://www.gofundme.com/the-artisans?teamInvite=gszkBHcRY3fDsm5odOkWq2VpValqp5KjtJ3vqM1v0MgZ5dgAGvA5Ftf0TyjLGzT4 Title: Shiver Me Timbers …The Pirate Invasion

On Friday evening, the 6th of April, more than 20 participants enjoyed a program that included middle eastern dance history, a fashion show of various dance costumes both folkloric and cabaret, tasty snacks, and a dance lesson in a popular Egyptian dance. This event was presented by Jasara (Tanya Nickson), a professional belly dancer with more than 40 years experience, and addressed the fine art disciplines of music, dance and fiber art. Fun was had by young and young at heart! SUFA volunteers painted many little faces on a brisk windy Saturday morning. Princesses, Wonder Women, Spidermen, and pirates (to name a few) were running on the Members Club practice field to gather eggs for the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Thank you to Troon and the many grandparents and parents who donated to a worthy cause. Monetary donations will be distributed to Brunswick County art teachers. Volunteers were Nancy Adelis, Donna Kanich, Allie Lull, Marian MacKerer, Kathy Pace, and Herb Pritchard. |
